Adeniyi Commences Tenure As Substantive CG Of Customs

Mr. Adewale Bashir Adeniyi MFR has commenced his tenure as the substantive Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), which took effect from October 19, 2023.

This followed his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. His appointment, according to Willie Bassey, Director, Information, in the office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is in accordance with the extant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR).According to the Statement, “The President tasks him to bring his wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.”Adeniyi is coming into the position with a very rich background of experience, having served in many important and relevant sections of the service both within and outside the country.He has over 30 years of experience in Customs Administration covering Strategic and Operational responsibilities.Adeniyi has built strong relationships with stakeholders and collaborated effectively to ensure efficient and effective movement of goods across borders, over the course of his career.The diligent Customs officer who is known to maintain the highest standards of integrity and professionalism, is committed to continuously improving his knowledge and skills.He is a Fellow and has been Vice-President of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations. He is also a member of the International Public Relations Association (IPRA). He obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in International Relations from the Obafemi Awolowo University – Ile-Ife, Osun state in 1987, and a Master of Arts Degree in Communication Science, from the Universitaire Svizzera D’ Italiana (USI) – Lugano—Switzerland, in 2013.Service decorations include -dsm –Distinguished Service Medal (Gold Category) ; and psc(+) – Passed Staff Course (+) 4.He has bagged numerous professional and leadership awards some of which include Comptroller – General of Customs Award for seizure of $8,065,612 million cash at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, January 2020; and Large College Crest Award for Excellence in Service as Deputy Commandant, NCCSC Gwagwalada December 2019.
