A fatal collision involving an 18-seater Mazda bus and a stationary Howo trailer has left at least eight passengers dead along the Oyo–Ogbomosho Expressway in Oyo State.

The tragic incident occurred in front of the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education when the bus, reportedly speeding, veered off its lane and rammed into the parked trailer from behind, triggering an intense fire that engulfed both vehicles.

According to the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mary Alo, emergency responders recovered eight bodies from the scene, while four surviving passengers were rushed to the hospital by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Akinwande said the distress call was received at 6:21 a.m. on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. He attributed the crash to overspeeding and the unsafe practice of parking heavy-duty trucks along major highways.

He warned that indiscriminate roadside parking by trailer operators continues to pose severe risks to motorists and remains a major cause of fatal night-time and early-morning crashes.

The adviser urged both commercial drivers and haulage operators to prioritise safety compliance, especially during the high-risk ember months, stressing that proper truck parking, adequate lighting, and strict adherence to road safety standards are essential to preventing avoidable tragedies.
