The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation has confirmed the arrest of a truck driver whose dangerous conduct along the Ojota–Maryland corridor on Tuesday put several road users at risk.

In a statement issued on November 25, 2025, the Ministry said operatives of the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) flagged down the truck at Ojota after identifying multiple safety breaches.

The vehicle reportedly had a shattered windscreen, faulty brakes, incomplete documentation and an improperly secured container, raising major compliance concerns within the haulage chain.

According to officials, the driver attempted to escape during the interception, speeding through Maryland and damaging three vehicles before VIS operatives brought the truck under control.

The Ministry said the attempted getaway further endangered motorists and pedestrians, underscoring the persistent risks associated with poorly maintained and non-compliant heavy-duty vehicles in the state.

Director of Public Affairs, Bolanle Ogunlola, praised the VIS team for acting swiftly to prevent what could have escalated into a major accident, noting that the incident reflects a broader challenge in Nigeria’s transportation sector, where safety lapses continue to threaten lives and disrupt traffic flow.

The Ministry reiterated its call for strict adherence to safety standards and regulatory compliance, stressing that consistent enforcement and responsible operations are key to reducing road hazards across Lagos.
